Morning show host and actress Juggan Kazim was a single mom when she entered showbiz. She’s come a long way since she used to bring her son sets with her. The star is now a married mom to two boys who launched her first book: a collection of thoughts on motherhood in Lahore last week.
Mom Matters discusses the multiple phases of being a parent and the challenges of raising children .
What inspired you to write a book?
My own pregnancies were the biggest inspiration more than anything else as far as this book is concerned. I got pregnant with my second son Hassan, 10 years after having Hamza. While the first pregnancy went by like a breeze, the second one was extremely tough. I was really unwell and was put on bed rest.
So throughout this difficult period I was constantly looking towards Western media to answer my ‘desi’ queries. So when I would look online, I could never really find anything that was relatable to as a Pakistani woman. Everything was very westernized, like I was told to eat avocados or add salmon to my diet, and most of these things aren’t even available in our supermarkets. So, for me the idea was to create something that would primarily cater to desi or South Asian women.
What is your message for new moms out there?
Everyone deals with pregnancy and motherhood differently, there is no set way of doing anything. So, my advice to all new mothers out there is don’t listen to what most people tend to say which is, ‘Oh everyone gets pregnant, what’s the big deal’. Every single pregnancy is different and unique in its own way, so read up and get your information down but ultimately follow your heart or your gut because a mother always knows what’s best for her baby.
What are your upcoming ventures?
There’s a lot of stuff in the pipeline. I have a film releasing early next year. Then I’m working on my mom portal which is www.mommatters.com and I’m also shooting a digital show called ‘The Couch’. The morning show that I do for PTV is continuing as usual. Besides that I’m also focusing on my clothing line Juggan’s. I’m looking into starting something in the beauty business but don’t want to say much about that until that gets on ground. So, I have lots of things planned and excited about what the future holds.
